# Directions:

01 - Select a large wooden or marble board and place it near the edge of your table, allowing space for ingredients to cascade over.
02 - Layer sliced and cubed cheeses near the board's edge, overlapping with some pieces extending beyond the board to create a cascading effect.
03 - Fold and drape prosciutto and salami beside and atop cheeses, letting slices hang off the board for visual appeal.
04 - Placing clusters of grapes, strawberries, blueberries, and thin pear slices around the cheeses and meats, allowing some fruit to spill over the edge.
05 - Nestle dried apricots and figs alongside scattered almonds and walnuts across the board and onto the table below.
06 - Place toasted baguette slices and crackers vertically and horizontally on the board, stacking and leaning some pieces to appear as if falling off.
07 - Set small bowls of honey, fig jam, and mixed olives on the board, allowing drips or some olives to trail off the edge.
08 - Sprinkle fresh rosemary and thyme over the board for color and aroma, then serve immediately encouraging guests to enjoy both board and cascading items.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It's a conversation starter that does the heavy lifting for you—guests gravitate toward it while you pour drinks.
  • You get to customize every single element based on what's in your kitchen or what friends can't resist.
  • The waterfall effect transforms a simple appetizer into an edible art installation that feels impossibly fancy.
02 -
  • Slice soft cheeses and fruit just before serving—oxidation happens faster than you'd think and browns pears and dulls colors.
  • The board will be eaten from quickly, so arrange elements you care most about in the center and be generous with quantities.
  • A slightly tilted or angled board works better than a perfectly flat one; slight gravity helps the waterfall effect feel natural.
03 -
  • Toast your baguette slices an hour ahead and store them in an airtight container so they stay crisp but aren't exposed to air long enough to taste stale.
  • Prep all components ahead and arrange the board 30 minutes before serving—that moment of freshness is what guests remember.
