# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It looks so impressive that guests assume you're secretly a charcuterie artist.
  • No cooking required means you can pull it together while chatting with people who've already arrived.
  • The combination of smoky, salty, and sharp flavors makes every bite interesting without any of them competing.
02 -
  • The quality of your meats and cheeses matters more here than in any other recipe because there's nowhere for mediocre ingredients to hide—visit a real butcher or cheese counter if you can.
  • If you cut everything in advance, the cheese can start to dry out at the edges, so do your cutting no more than an hour before serving.
03 -
  • Chill your meats and cheeses before cutting them—cold ingredients slice cleaner and hold their shape better on the board.
  • If you're making this more than an hour in advance, cover it loosely with plastic wrap and keep it cool, then remove it just before guests arrive so everything is at the perfect temperature for tasting.
